Panel Discussion During 25 years of Netpac Asia, New Delhi

On the occasion of the 25th anniversary of NETPAC, NETPAC India, in collaboration with India International Centre, New Delhi and with the support of UNESCO, New Delhi, held a series of film screenings of NETPAC Award winning films at the India International Centre (IIC). Various films awarded by NETPAC, titles such as Asghar Farhadi’s About Elly, Garin Nugroho’s A Poet, Hiroshi Toda’s Summer Kyoto, Wang Xiaoshuai’s 11 Flowers, Mahdi Fleifel’s A World Not Ours and Reis Celik’s Night of Silence, among others, were screened as part of the programme. The screenings were followed by a discussion between the audience and the filmmakers. A panel discussion titled Celebrating 25 Years of NETPAC: The Rise of Asian Cinema, was also held at IIC. Panellists included Aruna Vasudev, President NETPAC with NETPAC award-winning filmmakers, Jeffrey Jeturian, Yeo Joon-han, Swarna Mallawarachchi, Jahnu Barua and Anup Singh, alongwith UNESCO representative and longtime supporter of NETPAC’s efforts, Moi Chiba. Aruna Vasude helped trace the history of NETPAC from its genesis in 1990: when UNESCO asked Cinemaya, an Asian Film Quarterly run by Aruna Vasudev - to organise a conference on Asian Cinema. This conference was attended by 25 participants from Asia, Europe, USA and Australia and it led to the creation of the International Network for the Promotion of Asian Cinema – NETPAC. Posters of the events organised by NETPAC over the years were showcased in the foyer of the theatre, alongwith other printed materials and memorabilia connected to NETPAC events. We also displayed the various publications supported by NETPAC.
