Dhaka DocLab - A South Asian Platform for Documentary Project Market

A new platform, Dhaka http://dhakadoclab.org, has just started functioning with an aim to promote the South Asian documentary filmmakers find a place in global market of documentaries in future.

This platform has been formed for planning and organizing a project market for documentaries of young and aspiring South Asian filmmakers. This would be an annual event and the initial event will be held from 8-13th September this year. This six day event will comprise of four days of intensive mentoring and pitching of the selected film projects, for the last two days broadcasters, distributors, producers, festival managers as well as some global foundations who are already in the global market of factual story telling will be invited to pitching sessions.

This co-production market event is in collaboration with Docedge Kolkatta, an organization led by Nilotpal Majumder, former dean of SRFTI, who has been running the event for the last 14 years. Docedge will be involved with Dhaka DocLab in developing the capacity at initial stage,as it is rather a new phenomena for Bangladesh. EDN(European Documentary Network) as well as some other institutions have also been contacted for potential partnerships in future for further promotion and branding of this event at global level.

Documentary project proposals are invited from filmmakers from South Asian nations. This year the Dhaka DocLab plans to accept 15 projects as well as 15 observers who can attend the 6 day long event. For details write to dhakadoclab@gmail.com or visit their website www.dhakadoclab.org

Sun Shaoyi (1961 - 13th Aug. 2019) Shaoyi Photo It is with great sadness that we inform you of the demise of our senior NETPAC member, Prof SUN Shaoyi (孙绍谊) on 13th Aug 2019. Born in 1961, Prof. SUN Shaoyi did a Masters and a Ph.D from the University of Southern California (USC). He was Professor of Film and Media Studies at Shanghai Theater Academy (STA), taught Chinese film and literature at USC, University of California at Irvine, National Chung Hsing University (Taiwan), Shanghai University and New York University in Shanghai.
